For Explorers who have completed Paddle Awards up to Discover Award or have a similar level of experience (Scouts Paddle Sport Staged 2). Explorers should be able to:
- Lift, carry and launch a kayak
- Paddle in a straight line
- Steer around a course
- Stop safely
- Exit the kayak onto shore the safely
- Capsize, swim to shore and empty the kayak of water

Information Evening (30th October)
Interested Explorers are invited to an information evening at 1st Fairfield Scout Hut on the 30th October at 18:00. The aim of the evening is for Explorers and parents to find more information and ask any questions.
Flat Water Session (21st November)
All Explorers are invited but we will be picking between four and six Explorers to take onto the next stage. To move onto the next stage Explorers will need to be able to demonstrate that they can navigate a course and around obstacles and capsize with a spraydeck without panicking.
White Water Sessions
An initial plan of six white water sessions. The exact date will depend on water levels and weather conditions.

We will start with trips from stage 1. Once all members of the group are comfortable and competent we will progress to include trips from stage 2. Explorers will be provided with a buoyancy aid, helmet, cag and wetsuit to use for the duration of the course.

Stage 2 Trips
- Barnard Castle to Eggleston Abbey
- Cotherstone to Barnard Castle
- Richmond to Catterick
- Mickley to Sleningford Mill


Cost
The cost per person is £50 which covers all equipment, transport to/from Stockton.
Equipment
Explorers will be provided with a buoyancy aid, helmet, cag and wetsuit to keep for the duration of the course.
