Volunteer

We are always keen to hear from adults who are interested in volunteering with the team. It’s a great way to give back to the community, is fun, rewarding and looks great on your CV.

Cleveland Scouts Watersport is a volunteer run activity team within Cleveland Scouts. The team is made up of over 20 adult volunteers of all ages who come from a diverse range of backgrounds and professions with the majority of team members holding another role in Scouting. We also welcome the support of Explorers (14-18). The team provides opportunities for young people (6-18) to experience kayaking, canoeing, Stand Up Paddleboarding, raft building and bell boating. Our programme is varied and continues to grow each year. At present the team delivers: weekly evening and weekend taster sessions throughout the summer; the opportunity for young people to work towards the Paddle UK Start, Discover and Explore Awards; participant in overnight river trips; and large scale events such as our Water Activities Weekend. With a varied programme of activities there is something to suits everyone’s interests whether that is on the water or on land. You could help deliver sessions on the water or take on a bank base role helping with launching and recovery of craft or keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

What you’ll do

• Support the delivery of safe, fun watersport sessions for over 500 young people a year
• Help young people grow in confidence, resilience and teamwork
• Be part of a friendly and supportive volunteer team

Volunteering with the Watersport Team is flexible with no commitment allowing you to fit it around work and family life. Anyone can join, you don’t need to be in Scouting or even in Cleveland. Whether you’re completely new to watersports or already confident on the water, we’ll help you grow your skills and have fun.
